We all know that moving the body through exercise or yoga is beneficial to your overall physical and mental health, but have you ever considered how DANCE can help you heal from the inside out? Think about it, you’re never NOT happy when you dance. Whether you prefer to dance alone or with friends in your car, at a wedding, in your living room or pretty much anywhere – you’ve noticed the joy and bliss that dancing can bring. I mean, it’s pretty hard to be stressed out when you’re shaking what your momma gave you!

Growing up I had the tendency to become really isolated from other people my age and when I would feel lonely, sad, or anxious I would always plug in my stereo while blasting Britney Spears “Hit Me Baby One More Time!” CD for hours on end. Dancing came effortlessly to me as it was a way for me to be completely present in my body, letting go of all my worries and stressors – even at the early age of 12 (middle school was stressful, okay?)

The reason why I want to share with you the healing benefits of dance it’s because EVERYONE can do it! If your 78 year old grandmother can dance to her favorite classics without any shame as to what she looks like or who could be watching – so can you! I challenge you this week to put aside whatever it is that you’re doing, even if it’s for 5 or 10 minutes, close your eyes and just MOVE!
