Setting boundaries is a radical act of self-care.
Healthy boundaries define who we are in relation to others. Having a sense of boundaries and limits also helps you to connect with your true self.
Setting boundaries is not selfish.
Self-care is manifested as an act of self-love.
We all know that we need to secure our own oxygen mask before assisting other on an airplane in the case of an emergency.
The same applies to taking care of ourselves.
Make self-care a priority.
Set aside time each day for yourself. Communicate with the people in your life that this is your uninterrupted time to care for you.
Creating a physical boundary, such as a having a designated quiet space in your home where you can just be, is a way of taking care of yourself.
Know your limits.
Identify what you can tolerate and accept, and what makes you feel uncomfortable or stressed. Know how you deserve to be treated and be clear about your expectations for the way other treat you.
For example, asking the people in your life to not criticize, invade your personal space, or take their anger out on you.
