The benefits of yin yoga are endless. We take into consideration not only the postures themselves, but also the breath that is needed to tap into your parasympathetic nervous system! Your parasympathetic nervous system is also known as “rest and digest”. This system activates the more tranquil functions of the body; those that help maintain a healthy, long-term balance. It also helps to produce a state of equilibrium in the body! Yin yoga paired with specific breath exercises are what will take you away from the fight or flight response that you’re probably used to being in day in and day out.

Here at Heal. we have a structured approach to our yin yoga classes. As you may or may not know, all classes are geared towards beginners and practitioners of all levels. Here in Altamonte Springs we have such great yoga studios in the area where you can go to try out all those funky yoga postures and transitions but here at Heal. we bring you the basics.

One thing that yin yoga has taught me and many others is that because we are so still in these longer periods of time, it forces us to really sit with how we’re feeling and doing on that given day. It shows us that no matter what, if we can just BREATHE through the discomfort of not talking or moving, we can essentially breathe through whatever mini challenges or obstacles may arrive OFF of our mat in our daily life.
  6. Yin yoga brings a meditative-like quality to your life. Whether you want to think of meditation as just sitting criss cross applesauce with your eyes closed and your hands on your knees for long periods of time or not; your yin yoga practice in itself IS meditative! How? Well, the definition of meditation is to focus on something on purpose. All that you’re focused on during yin is your breathing (3 count inhales… 5 count exhales), the posture you’re in, the stretch that you feel, the soft cooling air on your skin, the fabric touching your body, the sound of the instructors voice and so on and so on! See? Even just bringing awareness into all of those little missed details is meditation.   7. You get to know yourself. It’s just you, yourself and your body in yin. You know how the saying goes, “patience is bitter, but the fruit is sweet?” Well, it’s so true!
Patience is a virtue. Why? Because with patience you’re practicing the art of grateful waiting. Waiting around for something to grow or begin can be exhausting in it’s own, but how awesome is it when you can sit back, trust that all is happening in the right timing!

In this day in age, we are so accustomed to expecting everything to happen as fast as it can, in our own time, but we forget that sometimes we must be okay with waiting a while. I want to share with you some instances where being patient while trusting that all is unfolding in a perfect manner can help to ease the feelings of stress or anxiety that waiting and waiting can sometimes bring.

The first step in practicing mindful patience is knowing that we must first be patient with ourselves. You didn’t grow up knowing how to walk… you had to learn, little by little, how to stand tall on your own two feet before you began to walk. You didn’t plant the seeds into the soil and expect it to sprout overnight…. you knew that good things take time and gave that flower the space and time to bloom without a rush. You didn’t become the master at your craft in a matter of days… you used your energy wisely in learning, growing and applying all that you know to your career, passion or even hobby!

What I am trying to say here is that no matter what – time is on our side. Whether or not we can realize it, our patience and willingness to accept the things we cannot change, make the “waiting game” a lot less fussy. We’re able to step back and put our trust in something higher than ourselves knowing that no matter what – whatever is meant to happen will happen.

I challenge you this week to notice when you start to grow impatient. Then ask yourself why. A lot of the time it’s because we are missing one thing – trust. When we lack faith and trust then everything around us seems to be working against us. But for a moment just breathe in… breathe out… and know that you are always supported and the “waiting” that you’re currently experiencing – especially if you’ve been in this stagnation for quite a long time – is all serving a higher purpose. It’s essentially the Universe showing you where you need to surrender and allow. Surrender to the unknown and allow things to unfold in their own special timing.

You are worthy of the ultimate happiness. You deserve it and should accept it. Promise me that you won’t feel guilty about it when you get it. Guilt is not invited to your happiness party – you won’t even tell him where it is. If he asks about it, you should be like “No, I think you’re thinking of something else…” and then run away very quickly.

We’ve been programmed to feel as though we don’t deserve what it is that we truly desire. Aside from wanting to manifest material things such as the latest car or a big home – when was the last time you sat down with yourself and asked “What do I want?”

Perhaps this question comes to you with some hesitance. Our subconscious mind is linked to referring back to past thought patterns and beliefs that we have grown up with, some being “I’m not good enough” or “this is too good to be true”, yet the reality of this is that these limiting beliefs about yourself and what your life CAN look like, are all here to show you where you have poured your energy out into other places, people or things that are no longer serving your highest good.

At times we feel as though if we just had that one last piece of the puzzle brought into our lives – whether it’s a relationship, a job, a vacation destination, a raise or promotion – we’d be at our ultimate happiness! Yet, when those things don’t manifest in your timing… or at all even, it can be frustrating, disappointing and even discouraging in some aspects.

So as you sit there – pouting and grumpy over the fact that the last piece of the puzzle was just out of arms reach – ask yourself, “what joy and bliss could have (insert said thing here) brought into my life that I’m apparently not experiencing right now?”

Yes, this is deep. Yes, this exercise will help you get to the bottom of it. Yes, this can bring up a ton of other questions but you have all the answers within.

At some point or another you’ll begin to realize that whether or not you have x,y or z in your life – you’ll always have yourself. You’ll always be able to rely on yourself for everything and anything! You are worthy of the life you desire only after you take back your power from expectations, toxic situations and anything else that is standing in the way between you and yourself.

At this point, you’re hopefully able to connect the dots and see that suddenly when you align with your truest nature… the things meant for you will always find you because it is your divine birth right to be happy! It is in your life blueprint, so to speak, to work towards becoming the healthiest and happiest YOU there there is.

Remember, there is only one You, and only You hold the power to make this life your best life. You are worthy because you are You. Your happiness and health is found inside of yourself above anything else. So next time you make a wish and it doesn’t come true according to your expectations – take a step back and see it as a gift. Perhaps something greater, something more aligned with who you are becoming or something that is going to sweep you off your feet is going to replace whatever it was that you had originally hoped for.

When you are in this place of finding your worth and joy within while sprinkling in some gratitude into the equation, you’ll begin to see that no matter what, life is always happening for you… not to you. So as your deepest wishes begin to come true, emotional fulfillment will reign through all aspects of your life and you’ll thank yourself for putting in the work to clear away the need to rely on external circumstances to bring you happiness.

Like a smart person once said… “the happiness you feel within is the icecream… and all the outer manifestations that you cultivate through positive thinking and gratitude are just the cherries on top,” – or maybe I just made that up. Either way, it’s true!

You were born knowing that you are a powerful Being; that you are good; that you are the creator of your experience, and that the Law of Attraction (the essence of that which is like unto itself, is drawn) is the basis of the Universe, and you knew it would serve you well. And so it has.”

Have you ever wondered why certain things happen the way that they do? Or why you feel the way that you do despite any external circumstances? Well the reality of it all is that YOU create your reality. You are in the driver seat and you have full control over what you will and won’t allow into your life. This means that those not-so-good experiences you have came across in life have on some level been manifested into your reality through your thoughts, both subconscious and conscious.

So what does that mean? Let’s take a situation such as traffic, a speeding ticket or even stubbing your toe as an example. If in your mind you are always feeling as though you never have enough time, or that you’re always having to rush to get to places or get things done, then the Universe will present to you things such as traffic or speeding tickets to remind you to take a few moments to slow down, breathe, and just be still.

It’s normal in this day to day life to always be in a rush or in a GO-GO-GO state of being, but in reality, wouldn’t you say that life feels better when you’re moving slow, taking your time with tasks and being fully present with whatever it is that you’re doing? Suddenly life will feel relaxed yet productive, as if your only duties are to be the best version of yourself as you accomplish all that is on your plate.

We want to remind you, as you read this, to figuratively “change the channel” any time that your brain goes into havoc mode. Begin to practice PRESENCE – noticing when your thoughts begin to drift back into older ways of thinking or when you fall into an old habit that doesn’t fit who you are anymore – then changing the channel to a positive thought such as gratitude for having good health or for having a roof over your head!

Remember, you are the attractor of your every experience – and so if you know you deserve to live in abundance, love and joy – wouldn’t your thoughts, intentions and actions reflect that?
