Craving Self-Care? We got you...

A Foolproof Formula for Personalizing Your Self-Care Checklist

You and your friends probably have your own favorite coffee drinks and TV shows.

It makes sense your ideal self-care checklist would look different too.

At Heal. in Altamonte Springs we have so many self-care choices for you.

Maybe you love adult coloring books but your best friend thinks they’re boring. Maybe they want to check into a luxury hotel for a spa package, but you’d rather pitch a tent and go camping. Perhaps it looks like meditation, yoga, massage, or other therapy.

For self-care to work, it has to match your personality and lifestyle.

Designing a routine to reflect who you are is vital in committing to regular self-care.

Customizing your Checklist

There are plenty of ideas for self-care while browsing through social media and magazines.

It’s up to you to pick ones that nurture you.

  1. Increase your awareness. How well do you know yourself? Observe your thoughts and explore your state of mind. Ask family and friends for feedback. Becoming mindful is a practice, and showing yourself grace while learning is part of being mindful. At Heal. we have the perfect tools for you to shut your brain off and give it the massage it needs. Ask about our Light and Sound Therapy and give your brain a massage. Or schedule a massage to relax your body and mind together.

  2. Manage your time. Be realistic about what you can fit into your schedule. You may be able to free up more hours for yourself by waking up early and turning off your phone for a while each day. Practice the art of saying, “no” to extra demands reducing stress in your life. You can’t please everyone all the time.

  3. Stick to your budget. Self-care doesn't have to be expensive. Enjoy free activities like taking a walk or going to the park. On the other hand, there may be some things worth splurging on for you. Getting a regular massage on your schedule has so many benefits other than it feeling good. Massage can boost your overall wellness, leading to better productivity and a clearer outlook.

  4. Listen to your feelings. Focus on your values and priorities, instead of keeping up with trends. It’s okay to skip green juice cleanses and putting charcoal in your toothpaste. Use your feelings to help guide you into what feeds your soul.

  5. Pursue your passions. Incorporate activities you love into your routine. It may lead you to more dance parties or quiet time with a book.

  6. Try new things. Be open to expanding your interests. Experiment with ideas you’ve seen on Instagram and ask friends what hobbies they enjoy. You might be surprised to find out you like CrossFit or bubble baths. Discover new joy by getting out of your comfort zone.

  7. Seek balance. Think about areas in your life you may be neglecting. You might work out regularly, but forget to stretch. You might pamper yourself at home, but let stress pile up when you’re at the office. We're not called Heal. Pain and Stress Relief Center because we're only good at one thing. We can help you seek balance in body and mind.

  8. Have fun. It’s great to apply your strengths to your me time, but remember there are no grades. As long as Origami amuses you, you’re the only one who has to know you were trying to make a frog. Learn to play again, without being attached to the outcome.

  9. Update as needed. Expect your self-care needs to vary over the years and even day by day. Change plans whenever you need to. Give yourself permission to pivot.

Covering the Essentials

We each have needs in common, even when we fulfill them in different ways.

Make sure your self-care plan supports your overall well-being.

Consider these strategies:

  1. Look after your body. Stay physically fit. Maintain a healthy body weight. Eat a nutritious diet, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week.

  2. Protect your mental health. Treat yourself with kindness and compassion, especially during challenging times. Ask for and accept help when you need it.

  3. Be social. Build a strong network of support. Stay in touch with family and friends. Set healthy boundaries and talk about your feelings.

  4. Grow spiritually. Think about your purpose in life. Give generously and connect with something larger than yourself. Join a faith community or practice your own beliefs.

You're more likely to engage in self-care consistently if your checklist is tailored to your unique mind, body, and spirit.

Making yourself a priority will bring you greater happiness and success and enable you to give more to others.
